The lovely folk over at Thomas J Fudges have challenged me to create my ultimate chocolate dipping sauce recipe and, as a chocolate lover, I couldn’t turn them down! I’ve always loved chocolate and sweet things and I’ve passed my sweet tooth on to O too. After an afternoon in the kitchen whipping up this Chocolate Orange Dipping Sauce and working on the recipe, he came home from school saying “What is this you’ve been making today Mam?” as if I get my bake on every single day… Oh, I wish my waistline could handle such a wonder!
Given the time of year, I thought it only fitting to opt for a dipping sauce in the flavour associated with Christmas… it could only be Chocolate Orange! A classic flavour combination and incredibly more-ish with a selection of tasty sides to dip. We opted for fresh strawberries, marshmallows, florentines from the Thomas J Fudges range and shortbread biscuits.
This handy recipe is perfect for a night in with the family or as a treat on the party buffet table. Maybe serve some fruit skewers alongside the chocolate orange dipping sauce too for a burst of freshness. I love this recipe – it was so delicious, I had to peel myself and O away before we turned into a chocolate puddle ourselves!
80ml double cream
200g 70% dark chocolate
Zest of 1 orange
3 tbsp orange juice
Chop the chocolate and place it in a heat-proof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Add the cream, orange zest and juice and stir constantly until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Transfer the mixture to a warmed serving dish and serve warm with your choice of accompaniment.
It really is that easy… What are your favourite chocolate flavours? Let me know what you would dip into your chocolate orange dipping sauce…
