I do love playing host to guests. It’s a good job really, as I had Donna from What the Redhead Said come to stay for two nights at the bank holiday weekend with her beautiful little family! I’d been to see the Take That Tour 2015 on the Monday previous in Newcastle, and spent the rest of the week at work and making sure the house was in a relatively clean and tidy state before they came to stay!
They spent the day on Friday visiting Muncaster Castle before heading over to my house when I finished work. It was great to see them all again, as I hadn’t seen Donna since our girly weekend in Manchester but hadn’t seen Dave or the kiddies since a mutual friend’s wedding in March 2014. It was crazy to see how much they’d grown and changed over the last year. We gave the kids pizza and chips for their tea as I showed Donna around the house and the rooms that they’d be staying in.
The kids loved having bath time together and were all asleep soon after, leaving the evening to us to natter, play board games and eat Chinese food with salt and pepper chips! Donna and I ruled at the word game Articulate, but were put back in our place by Dave and A as they beat us hands down at Trivial Pursuit… It’s lovely to have friends that share our love for board games! Can’t beat a good game!
On Saturday, the sun was splitting the trees – absolutely beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. I’d hoped it would at least be dry so that we could spend the day out in the Lake District and I wasn’t disappointed. We took a trip to Whinlatter Forest and walked the Gruffalo Trail, stopping to play on the swings and take in the views of Bassenthwaite Lake. We then went to Bryson’s of Keswick for Afternoon Tea and they kindly provided a bag of bread offcuts to take to Derwent Water to feed to the ducks.
It was so peaceful down at the water, although there were lots of people around, and we could’ve been anywhere in the world. The kids loved feeding the ducks and we even saw a new Bride that had ventured down for photograph opportunities and LP told her she looked like a Princess! Oh, she melts my heart! The kids were pretty shattered by this point so we made the decision to go back home and watch a movie whilst I prepared dinner. The kids ate their Spaghetti Bolognase really well and played outside in the garden on the slide, the play house and car.
Sunday came around far too quickly and it was time to say Goodbye. I loved having these guys to stay with their beautiful little family and I hope it won’t be long until they visit again!
This post actually made me cry. I’m an emotional wreck at the moment – look at our kiddies in the bath! It was such a lovely weekend, need to plan the next one! x
Aww Donna! It was a lovely weekend – you are always welcome xx
