Did you know that Mothering Sunday (Mother’s Day) is a holiday celebrated by Catholic and Protestant Christians and falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, exactly 3 weeks before Easter? I didn’t. I honestly had no idea it had a bearing on any sort of religious occasion. There we go – I’ve learned something today! Regardless of any religious reasoning, it is a day celebrated by many – particularly in the UK. New Mum’s enjoy their experiences with their little ones, and their Mum’s enjoy the experience of being spoiled after years of hard work that is parenting. Like many celebrated holidays in the UK, it has become customary to send a token gift to our Mum’s on Mother’s Day and so, I’ve drawn up a list of Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for anyone looking for inspiration.
Chocolates are definitely the way to my heart, especially during this pregnancy! Indulge your Mum with some luscious Lindt chocolates. There really aren’t that many women in the world that dislike chocolate, but fancy chocolates aren’t something that many treat themselves to regularly. These Lindt chocolates are scrumptious and I can highly recommend them.
For the Mum’s who have a sweet tooth and a quirky personality, why not gift them something a little extraordinary? Thomas J. Fudge have developed a range of delicious Limited Edition Flapjack and I can certainly vouch for these Dipped White Chocolate Flapjack made with orange zest and cranberries. Perfect with a cuppa tea! Thomas J. Fudge also produce a line of tasty biscuits, both sweet and savoury, with gift packs available. Monty Bojangles are a Chocolate Confectionary company offering a variety of flavoured chocolate truffles. Ruby Fruit Sunday are delightfully scrumptious red berry and crumbly biscuit truffles dusted in a bitter-sweet cocoa. Gift packs are also available.
The Spicer’s of Hythe produce a fabulous range of luxury hampers suitable for all occasions, including Mother’s Day. Their Mother’s Day Treats hamper includes a bottle of rather fancy cordial, handmade biscuits, chocolate-dipped marshmallows and flapjack, among other delicious treats. I was quite pleased to see that there are hampers available that offer a non-alcoholic drink, rather than the usual bottle of wine. As a pregnant mum, it means I can enjoy all treats in the hamper!
Another really lovely gift to receive is a piece of jewellery, and the Nikki Stark jewellery range has been developed to provide statement pieces of individuality in sterling silver and 9ct gold. Jewellery makes a wonderful keepsake for mum’s, allowing them to wear their gifts as they please. I have some pieces of jewellery that were gifts to me and I always remember who bought me them and for what occasion.
Last, but not least, one of my favourite things to receive as a gift any time of the year and as a Mother’s Day gift. Fresh flowers have the ability to brighten a room, especially now that we’re heading into Spring time. Choosing flowers that remind your Mum of happy occasions, like their wedding, can bring back great memories.
I hope I’ve been able to provide some inspiration for you if you’re stuck for a Mother’s Day gift – whether it be for your wife, partner, Mum or Gran. If you’re a Mum, what would you like to be gifted for Mother’s Day? Or would you prefer to have breakfast in bed and some peace for the day?
