Back in August, we flew from Edinburgh to the sunny shores of Majorca on our first family holiday. We had booked an early morning flight so needed to find somewhere to stay close to the airport the night before. Hubs found the Norton House Hotel and Spa just a few minutes from the airport, so we booked a family room. I hadn’t looked at the hotel so didn’t really expect it to be much more than a bed to sleep in for the night, but I was very pleasantly surprised when we arrived!
We pulled up outside a beautiful 1840 hotel after passing the original stone gatehouse on the drive. It was hard to believe that the airport was only a few minutes drive away as it was so quiet, set in huge gardens surrounded by woodland areas. We checked in with no issue and made our way up to our room. Our room was located in the newer extended part of the building which was a little tricky to find, but we got there in the end.
Our room was stunning. It was kitted out with a huge, and really comfortable, bed, television, mini bar, sofa bed and travel cot. We had floor to ceiling windows that looked out onto part of the car park and woodlands that let in lots of light. This didn’t disturb our sleep though as the curtains darkened the room wonderfully.
Not only did we have a beautiful bed, we had a little kitten there too! Okay, so it was a soft toy, but it was to be used as your ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign. Just pop it outside the door and voila. O loved it. Our only issue with the room was that the air conditioning didn’t do a great job at cooling the room down – I don’t suppose you need air conditioning very often in Scotland though.
The bathroom was pretty hot to boot, too. It was really spacious with a double shower, loo, sink area and extra long bath. O thought it was amazing because there was a television in the bathroom too – he could have his evening bath whilst watching In The Night Garden! It was pretty special and we all loved it.
We went for a walk around the Norton House Hotel grounds to see what was about before dinner and spotted some rabbits in the hedgerows and squirrels in the trees. We enjoyed a beautiful dinner in the bistro and a bottle of wine. The selection of food available was really fantastic and was the type of thing that is right up our street. O enjoyed his burger and chips too. On our return from our holiday, we had some issues with the car that had been left in the car park whilst we were away. Whilst we were waiting for the breakdown service to arrive, we ordered afternoon tea for both A and I and a kids afternoon tea for O. It was absolutely lovely with mini macarons, lemon possets and large scones to fill us up before our journey home.
Both hubs and I have agreed to revisit the hotel at a later date to make full use of the spa facilities and bistro restaurant again. We also didn’t get to eat breakfast as we had such an early start, so it would be nice to try that! The staff were incredibly helpful and so very polite, I would recommend the Norton House Hotel and Spa in Edinburgh to anyone.
